Darigold plays a significant role in the vitality and prosperity of the Northwest economy. Our impact begins with a number of direct payments to: our producer-owners, Darigold's more than 1,600 employees, our suppliers, and society through state and national taxes. But our economic contributions also emanate indirectly through the economic value created for our producers' on-farm employees, for our corporate customers locally and around the globe, and in the multiplier-effects within every rural and urban community where we do business. Dairy is particularly noteworthy within agriculture for creating year-round stable jobs. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) salary survey in 2010 indicated that farm and ranch managers earned a median wage of $60,750 annually. A 2009 National Milk Producers Federation study with Texas A&M University found US dairies paid an average salary of $31,521. Darigold's over $2 billion in sales annually is estimated to translate into $5 billion of economic value each year throughout the Northwest. That's a lot of economic impact generated from the miracle of sunshine, grass and cows!
Returning value to our producer-owners
Darigold is managed to return value to our members. The last several years have been a story of volatile markets, with milk supply increasing in the midst of sluggish demand globally. Despite this volatility, Darigold has returned substantial value to our producer-owners.
